How can we run a race and yet carry a lot of weight on our shoulders?
During my boot camp years in the Marines back in 2003, one of the struggles of the training to become a marine was being able to endure pain and learn not to quit or give up. This seemed to be extremely difficult at first and took a lot of strength, endurance and mental fitness to overcome the challenges I faced everyday in training. I remember during a training session they called “crucible”, climbing this steep hill while carrying another marine to the top. I was in pain myself and my body kept telling me ” you wont make it” but my mind was trained not to give up. I grabbed the marine from his pack and dragged him to the finish line. At the top of this hill was the culmination of the whole 54 hour event, having only 6 hours of sleep and two meals, we pressed forward to the top of the mountain to earn our medal. At the top I became officially a Marine of the United States of America.
But to get to where I wanted to be at that moment, I had to endure emotional, psychological and physical pain. My whole being had to go through a process of change. The change wasn’t pleasant. They were nights I cried because I just wanted to quit, I couldn’t take the pain. My mind was changing, I was becoming tougher. My body was changing as it kept taking beatings and being pushed to do things it had never done before. Change wasn’t easy, change was hard and painful. Through the process I learned that everything I had gone through was worth it. The physical and mental training made it possible for me to reach my hand to my fellow marine and lift him up to reach our end goal.
The same applies now in our walk in life. We face bad and good circumstances everyday. Some struggle financially, some emotionally, others through sickness, whatever the challenge we face we have to set our eyes towards the end goal. The Bibles says to set our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith, Hebrews 12:1-2. In Him we find all we need to succeed in this life. Whether its a financial, emotional, spiritual or simply a physical challenge your facing Jesus will always be along the way grabbing you so you can press to reach to the top of the mountain.
“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”Hebrews 12:2 KJV
Though we may fail many times the important thing is that we let God lift us up again. The way we do that is when we look and set our eyes on Him. In Him we can lay our weight of burdens and problems and He’s more than willing to carry it for us. The Bible says we overcome the world by our faith in Christ, 1 John 5:4-5.
Where is your faith set on today? In the world?. Your problems?. What financial experts say?. What doctors say about sickness and disease?.
Reach your hand up high.
